About Our Opportunity

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join the Nova Scotia Regulatory and Appeals Board as a Board Member. As a member of this esteemed board, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that the province's regulatory and appeals processes are fair, transparent, and effective.

The Board is responsible for making decisions on a wide range of matters, including utility reviews, property assessment appeals, auto insurance rates, and planning appeals. As a Board Member, you will be expected to bring your expertise and experience to bear on these complex issues, and to make decisions that are in the best interests of the province and its citizens.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong background in engineering, with significant experience in a related field. You will also need to be able to chair and/or participate as a panel member in quasi-judicial public hearings, and to make decisions that are fair, impartial, and based on the evidence presented.

The appointment process will be transparent and merit-based, and will involve a thorough review of your qualifications and experience. If you are selected for an interview, you will be asked to provide additional information and to participate in a panel interview.

Key Responsibilities
  • Chair and/or participate as a panel member in quasi-judicial public hearings
  • Make decisions on utility reviews, property assessment appeals, auto insurance rates, and planning appeals
  • Bring expertise and experience to bear on complex issues
  • Make decisions that are fair, impartial, and based on the evidence presented
Requirements
  • Strong background in engineering, with significant experience in a related field
  • Ability to chair and/or participate as a panel member in quasi-judicial public hearings
  • Excellent decision-making skills, with the ability to make fair and impartial decisions
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex information effectively
