Job Summary

The Structural Engineer III plays a pivotal role in coordinating and executing engineering tasks within allocated systems design, ensuring seamless integration of systems into the ship and optimal performance throughout the delivery process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute allocated systems design in compliance with schedule and budget specifications.
  • Ensure full and functional integration of systems into the ship, validating spatial integration with accurate system data.
  • Guarantee functional performance of systems from installation through test, sell-off, and delivery of the ship.
  • Conduct material definition and configuration of assigned systems, including functional and production baselines.
  • Perform structural analysis using first principal calculations and finite element methodology.
  • Conduct structural reviews, create design drawings, and approve final reports and documentation.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and the supply chain to receive, approve, and integrate technical and commercial information for detail design and supply chain management.
  • Support detail design, planning, supply chain, and production to ensure designed systems are complete and functional on schedule.
  • Support production planning and production with risk mitigation oversight and enable products to support installation and build schedules.
  • Ensure quality of design products and compliance to specifications.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering or Naval Architecture discipline; Master's degree desirable.
  • Professional Engineer or Incorporated Engineer designation recognized by EGBC.
  • 5+ years of post-secondary progressively senior experience in Engineering, preferably with knowledge of ship/maritime systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with a diversely integrated project team is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy.
  • Technical writing skills, including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
  • Knowledge of MRP, purchasing, and management systems is preferred.
  • Understanding of CADMATIC, ShipConstructor, AutoCAD, and Finite Element software (FEMAP), document control systems, and databases.
  • Ability to work effectively across a multi-disciplined team and assess their inputs.
  • Critical thinker with the ability to analyze change requests, projects, and designs to anticipate schedule or budget risk.
  • Ability to work without supervision and provide technical guidance on testing, evaluating, and improving engineering outcomes.
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Committed to a high standard of safety and able to follow all safety laws and the employer's safety policies and rules.
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).

The estimated salary for this position is $94,500 - $115,500. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors, including the successful candidate's skillset and experience, position location, and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.

Must hold or be eligible to attain Reliability Security Clearance or a higher level of Security Clearance as required.
