Position Overview
The University of British Columbia is seeking a dedicated Genomic Research Analyst to contribute to pathogen genomics initiatives within a One Health framework. This role involves collaboration with a diverse team of professionals, including microbiologists, epidemiologists, and veterinarians, to address a broad range of genomic requirements.
Key Responsibilities
The Genomic Research Analyst will:
- Provide laboratory and analytical support for various genomic studies.
- Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot laboratory genomics techniques.
- Create and implement bioinformatics and phylogenetic analysis pipelines.
- Assist in the establishment of new programs through literature reviews and methodology development.
- Support the training and mentorship of junior team members.
- Integrate genomic data and associated metadata for comprehensive analyses.
- Participate in research discussions to advise on study design and protocol development.
- Contribute to the preparation of research manuscripts and grant proposals.
- Engage with external stakeholders and funding agencies to facilitate project coordination and data sharing.
- Ensure compliance with standards for data security and management of sensitive health datasets.
Accountability
The Genomic Research Analyst is expected to conduct all activities with integrity and accuracy. The work performed must be meticulously documented, as it will be utilized for various research and policy applications. Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive health information is paramount.
Collaboration and Supervision
This position will report to the Principal Investigators and will work closely with other scientific personnel. The Genomic Research Analyst will also oversee data management and research team members as necessary.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required, along with a minimum of three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates will possess:
- A Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or Genetics.
- Experience in validating molecular and genomic assays.
- Proficiency in sequence data analysis and familiarity with programming languages such as Python, R, or others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Leadership and interpersonal skills.
