Compensation: $33.04 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
The Occupational Instructor is responsible for conducting task assessments, providing skills training, maintaining job placements, and facilitating employment planning for clients involved in the Employment Options Program. Duties include collaborating with the Rehabilitation Officer and/or referral sources to achieve clients' vocational objectives, while working alongside the Supervisor and Team Werks Co-op Inc. members to fulfill the operational and business goals of St. Joseph's Care Group's supported Social Enterprise.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Completion of post-secondary education in social services, rehabilitation, or a related discipline, or a minimum of five years of experience in providing employment support or vocational rehabilitation services.
- Familiarity with local vocational programs and services available in Northwestern Ontario through federal, provincial, municipal, and non-profit organizations.
- Understanding of Psychosocial Rehabilitation principles and Recovery philosophy.
- Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation theories and principles applicable to individuals with serious mental health conditions.
- Basic business acumen and/or experience in a business setting.
- Awareness of major mental health disorders, their symptoms, treatment approaches, and impact on social and vocational functioning.
- Understanding of psychotropic medications and their potential side effects, particularly regarding vocational or educational capabilities.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficient in assessment, interviewing, training, and job coaching.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities, with sound judgment and interpersonal skills, including tact and sensitivity towards clients and their families.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Infomed, Meditech, Microsoft Office, and general internet usage.
Preferred Assets:
- Knowledge of safe and proper industrial equipment usage.
- Capability to operate a 3-ton truck.
- Valid Class G Driver's License with appropriate insurance coverage.
- Standard First Aid certification.
Employment Conditions:
This position is contingent upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
Employment offers to external candidates are conditional upon providing proof of COVID-19 vaccination or valid medical exemption prior to the effective date of employment. Failure to provide such proof will result in the rescindment of the job offer.
