Position Overview

The Parks Department is currently seeking three (3) regular full-time Crew Leads for Park Operations. This role involves routine supervisory responsibilities overseeing a team engaged in the daily operations and upkeep of parks, open spaces, landscaped areas, turf, and sports fields.

As a working supervisor, you will operate a light truck, with or without a trailer, to transport your team, equipment, and materials necessary for the job. Your work will follow a predetermined schedule and established methods, with performance evaluated by a superior based on the effectiveness of supervisory services provided.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, assign, and assist a team in the maintenance and restoration of parks, open spaces, landscaped areas, turf, and sports fields, including operating various tools and equipment; provide training and mentorship to team members; participate in performance evaluations.
  • Ensure regular maintenance and repair of equipment utilized by the crew.
  • Maintain simple records related to work activities.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections and drive a light truck and trailer to transport crew, equipment, and materials.
  • Uphold safety standards for the crew and public by enforcing proper safety protocols.
  • Address inquiries and complaints; resolve issues or concerns; escalate complex matters to a superior.
  • Assist with special events held in parks.
Qualifications:

  • Solid understanding of the methods, practices, equipment, and materials used in the maintenance and operations of parks, open spaces, landscaped areas, turf, and sports fields.
  • Proven ability to supervise and assist a team in parks maintenance and related tasks.
  • Competence in safely operating and maintaining a variety of equipment.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills to effectively guide a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to prepare and maintain basic operational records.
  • Proficiency in using and caring for various tools and maintenance equipment.
Education: Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by training or education in horticulture, turf management, or recreation management, along with considerable experience in park operations, including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid BC Class 5 Driver's License is required.
