This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities related to safety, compliance, and incident management. Below is a detailed outline of the key responsibilities associated with this position:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the effective management and resolution of accidents, adhering to established protocols.
  • Serve as the primary contact for accident or incident occurrences, coordinating emergency responses as needed.
  • Facilitate the activities of the accident review committee and lead meetings.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews and analyses of all accidents and incidents, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Monitor adherence to current regulations and evaluate performance reports to identify trends among high-risk drivers.
  • Design and implement enhancement strategies across various domains such as driver infractions, equipment compliance, CVOR, USDOT, and accident statistics.
  • Ensure the accuracy and compliance of daily driver audits.
  • Lead the local health and safety committee, contributing to the establishment of a safe and compliant workplace.
  • Guarantee that all regional employee training is current, covering essential topics such as WHMIS, transportation of hazardous materials, hours of service, pre-trip inspections, and workplace safety.
  • Create training and communication initiatives addressing safety, security, environmental, and compliance matters for a diverse workforce.

Representation and Development:

  • Actively engage in webinars, seminars, and conferences focused on safety and compliance within the road transport sector.
  • Contribute to the representation and dissemination of best practices and insights gained from the sector.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian and American road regulations, including CVOR and USDOT.
  • Experience in managing hazardous materials is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of load securing techniques and configurations for light utility vehicles.
  • Proficient in standard commercial software applications such as Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Previous experience in safety management, driver training, or as an owner-operator is advantageous.
