We are a Pure Construction Management business based in Tsawwassen, with a strong focus on mitigating our client's risk, maximizing their value, and exceeding their expectations. With an annual construction volume of $150 million, we typically have fifteen to twenty projects in various stages of construction, with a total construction value of $500 million in progress and a similar amount in development.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Project Management to join our team at Unitech Construction Management Ltd. As a senior member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of selected construction projects through Pre-Construction, Construction, and Post-Construction phases. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, you will provide leadership and mentorship to our Project Managers, ensuring the successful delivery of our construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and lead performance management activities with direct reports, including Quarterly Conversations and Weekly or Bi-Weekly Check Ins.
  • Participate in recruitment of direct reports and their direct reports.
  • Consistently participate in the education, growth, and development of direct reports.
  • Actively participate in and lead Project Management Level 10 meetings.
  • Participate in all Operations Level 10 meetings.
  • Manage direct reports' time-off requests.
Pre-Construction
  • Assist with the development and adoption of the Project Charter with key project team members, ensuring the owner's goals and priorities are always at the forefront.
  • Assist with project risk identification, evaluation, and the development of risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide constructability input to optimize the design and detailing during each design stage, reflecting the team's risk mitigation strategies.
  • Assist with the development of cost estimates at each stage of design.
  • Produce initial project schedules with direct reports, assisting with updates, modifications, and maintenance at each stage of design.
  • Review front-end tender documentation and scope of work packages to ensure clarity and conciseness, avoiding undefined or risky work items and double-ups.
  • Review Unitech's Class A Tracker budget in coordination with front-end tender documents, ensuring all items of work are coordinated into one budget and risks identified are budgeted elsewhere.
Construction
  • Be a resource for direct reports' project management responsibilities.
  • Attend project start-up meetings with owners, consultants, and trades, and regular project meetings.
  • Review and approve analysis sheets, monthly report packages, cost forecasting, changes to project budgets and schedules, and recommendations to owners.
  • Review and approve trade contractor performance of work dispute resolutions.
  • Audit direct reports' processes and procedures in areas such as Cost Control and Accounting, Changes in Work, Submittals, and Site Instructions.
Post-Construction
  • Be a resource for direct reports' project management responsibilities.
  • Attend project start-up meetings with owners, consultants, and trades, and regular project meetings.
  • Review and approve analysis sheets, monthly report packages, cost forecasting, changes to project budgets and schedules, and recommendations to owners.
  • Review and approve trade contractor performance of work dispute resolutions.
  • Audit direct reports' processes and procedures in areas such as Cost Control and Accounting, Changes in Work, Submittals, and Site Instructions.
Requirements
  • At least five years of people leadership experience.
  • At least two years of experience at the senior management level.
  • At least ten years of Construction Management experience, preferably in a similar role.
  • Post-secondary graduation from a management or construction program or equivalent relevant combination of training and relevant work experience.
  • Good working knowledge of current construction methods, materials, procedures, drawings, specifications, and building codes.
  • Exemplary English skills, both verbal and written, with strong analytical, mathematical, and communication skills.
  • Excellent budgeting and estimating skills and exemplary spreadsheet skills.
  • High level of personal and professional integrity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) as well as other construction applications.
  • Ability to work efficiently with a service-oriented attitude, courtesy, tact, and diplomacy under stressful situations with constant interruption.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively throughout cross-functional teams with strong customer-service orientation.
  • Self-motivated, creative thinking, organized, succinct, and efficient.
  • Above-average relationship building, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, leadership, and team building skills.
  • Proficient with computers, calculators, multifunctional processing units, multi-line telephone systems, and faxes.
  • Positive attitude, ability to adapt to change, and superior sense of accountability and responsibility over assigned objectives, outcomes, and records.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.
  • Certified Building Technician (CTech) or Applied Science Technologist (AScT) designation a significant asset.
