Role Overview:
The primary responsibility of this position is to deliver exceptional customer service to clients by proactively identifying opportunities to assist and support. This role is crucial in ensuring that property regulations and standards are upheld by maintaining a highly visible and reassuring presence through assigned patrols and post duties. The successful candidate will serve as a deterrent to criminal activity and contribute to a safe and welcoming environment. The candidate will be required to work various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exemplary service to customers and clients, addressing safety concerns, medical issues, or emergencies as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with and enforce property standards, rules, and regulations fairly and reasonably.
  • Safeguard the property by conducting visible patrols of designated areas and engaging positively with clients consistently.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments, particularly Guest Services, to enhance customer service support and resolve client concerns or complaints.
  • Stay alert for signs of criminal or suspicious behavior and take appropriate actions as per established guidelines.
  • Be prepared to respond to incidents of crime, disturbances, fires, and other emergencies as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Emergency Response Plans.
  • When authorized, respond to incidents that have occurred and ensure that law enforcement is contacted as necessary.
  • Report and follow up on any hazards or deficiencies observed during duty.
  • Conduct daily inspections of fire safety equipment and escalators.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid, CPR, or AED assistance until professional medical help arrives.
  • Maintain a detailed logbook and prepare incident reports using the company’s standard reporting software.
  • Address trespassers and unauthorized individuals on the property in a fair and safe manner, enforcing the Trespass to Property Act.
  • Support the Health and Safety program to prioritize and effectively practice occupational safety across all operational areas.
  • Conduct after-hours lock-up and morning openings as required.
  • Complete the company’s Serve and Secure program with annual recertification.
  • Follow procedures related to building operating hours and traffic management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications for Success:

  • Post-secondary education in Law Enforcement/Security or a related field.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in security within a shopping center environment is preferred.
  • A valid Provincial Security License is mandatory.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification is required.
  • Familiarity with the Trespass to Property Act.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • WHMIS and other safety training are advantageous.
  • Understanding of relevant federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.
  • Proficient digital literacy (Microsoft Office, Google Suite) is essential.
  • Previous experience in a customer service role is a significant asset.
  • Knowledge of crowd management during emergencies and events.
