Job Summary

The Refrigeration Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and upkeep of the company's refrigeration equipment and building, ensuring minimal interruptions in warehouse operations, employee safety, and customer product temperature control at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and promote a culture prioritizing health and safety, providing leadership and support for health and safety initiatives within the department.
  • Conduct daily checks on refrigeration equipment and perform necessary repairs or adjustments.
  • Tour the warehouse regularly to ensure the building is safe and supports warehouse activities.
  • Follow preventative maintenance programs to minimize disruptions in warehouse operations.
  • Make recommendations to the Chief Operating Engineer and General Manager on programs and equipment to improve efficiency and meet ongoing customer requirements.
  • Monitor and adjust equipment to lower utility costs.
  • Operate various warehouse management technology, including CMMS and computerized refrigeration control systems.
  • Enforce established safety, health, contamination, and housekeeping policies and procedures to minimize staff injuries, lost production time, damage, and product contamination.
  • Perform other maintenance activities, such as door repair, floor repairs, and general building repairs.
  • Participate in other initiatives, projects, and duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Experience with building repairs and general maintenance duties, with mechanical aptitude an asset.
  • Weekends may be required as business dictates.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts and respond to after-hours call-outs.
  • On-call rotation requirement.
  • 5th Class Power Engineer or Refrigeration Operator Ticket (required).
  • Knowledge of provincial regulations regarding operating engineering and refrigeration, elevating devices, building and fire code, local bylaws, environmental, labor, and health and safety legislation.
  • Ability to work in temperatures of -30 degrees Celsius.
