ABOUT US
At Green Shield Canada (GSC), we are committed to enhancing health outcomes for all Canadians. Established in 1957, our founder, pharmacist William Wilkinson, recognized the need for a better healthcare solution when he witnessed a mother sacrificing her health for her child's medication. This vision led to the creation of North America's first prepaid drug plan, establishing GSC as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health for everyone.
We are more than just a health and benefits provider; we are a unique social enterprise that integrates comprehensive coverage and care in one platform. Our mission is to foster better health for all Canadians, starting with our dedicated employees.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Enterprise Data Office at GSC is tasked with facilitating our transformation into a premier health services provider and insurer in Canada. Our primary goal is to develop an innovative digital platform that seamlessly combines health services and benefits plans, ensuring efficient access to care and reimbursement. The Chief Data Office is focused on establishing modern, cloud-based data and AI technology frameworks, alongside data and machine learning pipelines, to deliver measurable outcomes.
As we enhance our data utilization to offer superior products and services, it is crucial to ensure that our data collection, usage, and storage adhere to relevant legislation and clear governance guidelines. We are seeking a Data Governance Lead to collaborate with the data governance office and various stakeholders to formulate and maintain a comprehensive set of governance directives, adapting them as new regulations emerge. This role will also spearhead the implementation of data governance technologies, tools, and processes in partnership with IT and Security.
- Gain a thorough understanding of the healthcare services and health insurance landscape.
- Assist in the development of data governance directives and an implementation strategy in collaboration with security, privacy, legal, and risk teams.
- Engage with stakeholders across IT Security, Legal, Executive teams, and others to execute the implementation roadmap.
- Establish data governance processes and manage exception handling procedures.
- Communicate effectively to gain stakeholder support.
- Lead the adoption and application of data governance tools and technologies.
- Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory shifts, and emerging technologies in data governance, integrating them into our strategy.
- Provide training and awareness programs on data governance for data owners, stewards, and users.
- Mentor and coach data advocates, promoting a data-driven culture throughout the organization.
- Participate in data governance council and working group meetings, clearly communicating roles, responsibilities, and expectations to stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field with a technology focus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in data management, with at least 3 years in a governance role.
- In-depth knowledge of data governance practices, policies, standards, and the legislation that informs governance directives.
- Experience with contemporary data governance tools and technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Familiarity with data governance technologies such as MS Purview and BigID is advantageous.
- Understanding of Canadian data-related regulations.
- Self-motivated with the ability to navigate ambiguous environments.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills, capable of articulating new concepts and ideas.
- Proficient in stakeholder management and leadership, with the ability to influence effectively.
CULTURE AND VALUES
At GSC, we believe that a fulfilling career is about more than just earning a paycheck. Our culture fosters an environment where every voice is valued and heard, enabling us to challenge the status quo and strive for better health outcomes for all. We are committed to inclusivity, recognizing that diverse backgrounds and perspectives enhance our organizational strength and effectiveness.
We provide a workplace that inspires, challenges, and rewards our employees, ensuring that their growth aligns with our collective success. At GSC, your contributions matter, and together, we can make a significant impact.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Proficiency in English is essential for this position, as effective communication with colleagues and stakeholders is a key component of the role. GSC is dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion within our teams and communities, valuing the unique contributions of all individuals. We encourage applications from all candidates and will accommodate needs under human rights legislation throughout the recruitment process.
