Job Summary:

The Chief Mate is a critical member of the vessel's operations team, reporting directly to the Master. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient navigation of the vessel, as well as overseeing the loading and unloading of cargo.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply Company Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental Policies in all aspects of deck operations and maintenance.
  • Oversee the navigation of the vessel, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Supervise the activities of the deck crew, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Coordinate the loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring timely and efficient completion of tasks.
  • Collaborate with the Master to develop and implement vessel operations strategies.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Chief Mate Certificate issued by Transport Canada.
  • Specialized Oil Tanker Training Endorsement.
  • Radio Operator's License (or GOC).
  • Certificate of Proficiency for Vessel Personnel with Security Responsibilities.
  • Great Lakes Pilotage Authority (GLPA) certificate holder (preferred).
  • Canadian passport or permanent residence status.
  • Minimum 2 years recent experience in a similar role.
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to analyze and adjust work procedures for maximum efficiency.
  • Knowledge of English language is required.
