Junior Building Automation Systems Technician

SUMMARY
The Junior Building Automation Systems Technician is tasked with the remote management of Building Automation Systems (BAS) within facilities overseen by BGIS. This role involves executing daily operational adjustments, analyzing trend data to assist in troubleshooting, implementing modifications for energy efficiency and operational improvements, and coordinating solutions for intricate challenges.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Assistance
- Collaborates with facility operators and site supervisors to pinpoint operational enhancements and energy conservation opportunities within BAS functions.
- Formulates suggestions for BAS system modifications and discusses them with BAS Technicians I and II for execution.
- Conducts commissioning evaluations to facilitate the transition of projects from installation to ongoing operations.
Continuous Operations
- Addresses service requests related to BAS/Control issues to diagnose and resolve problems.
- Enhances facility uptime and the integrity of assets within the assigned location.
- Monitors system performance and fault occurrences, performing corrective and demand service maintenance on BAS to ensure operational continuity, occupant comfort, asset integrity, and energy cost objectives.
- Coordinates maintenance repairs and implements temporary solutions to minimize disruptions while awaiting service completion.
- Engages with the site team, BAS Technicians I and II to address recurring failures. Identifies, documents, and escalates deficiencies while maintaining relevant records.
- Ensures that remote platforms are current and functional.
- Manages, tracks, and reports the status of maintenance and repair tasks within the work order management system, including progress and resolution updates.
- Uploads current installation documentation received from the installation team and BAS vendors following upgrades.
- Performs tasks in accordance with established protocols and practices.
- Adheres to all internal and external regulations, including environmental and health and safety standards.
Client Engagement
- Provides insights regarding the condition and deficiencies of building automation equipment and systems, along with recommendations for improvements and repairs.
- Contributes to enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction by maintaining positive relationships through the quality of work performed.
Administrative Duties
- Records resolution data within the service maintenance management database, ensuring that completed work meets quality and contractual requirements.
- Monitors and reports the status of maintenance and repair tasks within the service maintenance management database.
- Initiates documentation to secure formal approval for necessary work.
- Participates in and supports facility-related projects.
- Performs other assigned responsibilities as needed.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- College diploma in a relevant field.
- Courses in BAS or Building Operations (preferred).
- Experience in remote BAS operation across multiple facilities (minimum 4 months).
- Proven skills in BAS navigation, data trend analysis, and troubleshooting (minimum 4 months).
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet analysis tools (minimum 4 months).
- Familiarity with integration concepts and platforms such as BACnet systems (preferred).
- Operational experience with fault detection platforms (preferred).
- Strong understanding of optimization and energy management strategies for BAS (preferred).
- Ability to follow and execute processes related to facility operations and maintenance (minimum 4 months).
- Strong client-service orientation with a high sense of urgency (minimum 4 months).
- Effective communication skills for data exchange, feedback, and clarification (minimum 1 year).
- Peer support skills to assist team members (minimum 4 months).
- Availability for on-call/standby and emergency call-outs as needed, including occasional extended hours.
- Experience in programming, coding, on-site installation, and/or maintenance of BAS (preferred).
- Bilingualism (preferred).
- Valid driver's license (preferred) – must be able to visit the head office as required, regardless of license conditions.
