Position Overview
Dudek is currently looking for a full-time Senior Water Resources Engineer in our Hydrogeology Division. This role involves providing planning and design assistance as part of a project team focused on surface water, groundwater, and water treatment systems. A key aspect of this position will involve supporting a technical assistance initiative for underserved communities, tribes, and small agricultural operations concerning water supply, distribution, and treatment. The ideal candidate will be a licensed professional engineer with over five years of experience in water infrastructure and civil engineering. This role will be based in one of our California offices, with the possibility of remote work flexibility.
The Hydrogeology Division collaborates closely with other divisions on water-related projects, including groundwater and surface water analysis, management, planning, supply, development, treatment, and hazardous waste. Our team comprises certified and licensed hydrologists, hydrogeologists, engineers, and modelers. Our projects vary in size and scope, including compliance with California's Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), groundwater resource development for public and private entities, water availability assessments, surface and groundwater modeling, and support for environmental impact reports and other compliance documents.
This position is expected to contribute to a multi-year program for the California Department of Water Resources, aimed at identifying and assisting small water systems, tribes, and small farmers. Responsibilities include conducting needs assessments, analyzing and designing water supply and treatment systems, developing project alternatives, creating plans and specifications, and preparing reports such as preliminary engineering reports and hydrogeology assessments. Engineering tasks may involve designing and analyzing water storage and fire flow systems, water distribution networks, groundwater wells, and ensuring the quality and treatment of potable and irrigation water.
Candidate Profile
To succeed at Dudek, you should be comfortable with both autonomy and accountability. We value collaborative, resourceful, and independent thinkers. We seek curious, solution-oriented individuals who can adapt swiftly to the evolving industry landscape. There is no single solution to every problem, and we encourage your innovative approaches.
Successful candidates in the Senior Engineer role typically:
- Desire a diverse role that includes early exposure to business development and client relations.
- Exhibit self-motivation and teamwork, with a proactive approach to completing tasks.
- Show an early interest in project management, including staffing, financial oversight, and technical leadership.
Our senior engineers are supported by a talented team of project managers, hydrogeologists, engineers, CAD designers, marketing staff, and more. The Dudek culture emphasizes the importance of senior engineers in project success and promotes collaboration to ensure the successful completion of projects and pursuit of new opportunities. Our bonus compensation structure encourages teamwork, performance, and career advancement, contributing to the division's sustained profitability and organic growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement projects under the guidance of a Project Manager, focusing on planning and analysis of groundwater wells, community treatment systems, and related infrastructure.
- Execute project designs for water conveyance and treatment facilities, including developing project plans, specifications, calculations, and cost estimates.
- Conduct fieldwork, including site visits, water-related measurements, and monitoring equipment setup as needed.
- Travel within California for client meetings, site assessments, conferences, and project-related fieldwork as required.
- Train and delegate tasks to hydrogeologists and engineers to manage workload effectively.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of engineering experience in groundwater extraction and water treatment project planning and design.
- Professional Civil and/or Mechanical Engineer license in California.
- Experience with solar power system design related to groundwater wells and pumps is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) with strong writing, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with design software, including AutoCAD, is desirable.
- The ideal candidate will engage with Dudek's qualified team to respond to proposals, deliver high-quality work, build relationships, and pursue professional growth opportunities.
- A valid driver's license and active personal automobile liability insurance are required upon employment.
Working Conditions:
- This position operates in a remote or office-based environment, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers and phones.
- Occasional project site visits may involve outdoor work with exposure to noise, uneven surfaces, and varying weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work on a computer and remain seated or standing for extended periods.
- Participation in meetings, both in-person and virtually, requiring effective communication skills.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
- Outdoor activities may involve traversing uneven terrain in challenging weather conditions.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
Compensation and Benefits:
