Surgical Services Registered Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) at Abbotsford Regional Hospital & Cancer Centre. As a Registered Nurse in this role, you will be responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients recovering from anaesthetics, assessing their condition, and determining the best course of action to ensure their safe and effective recovery.
Key Responsibilities- Assess post-anaesthetic patients, collecting and evaluating information from various sources, and making nursing diagnoses to determine the best course of action.
- Provide nursing care to address critical care needs, following physicians' and anaesthetists' orders, and in accordance with established standards and hospital policies.
- Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, collaborating with members to identify and resolve issues, adjust care plans as needed, and address changes in patient condition.
- Coordinate nursing care for patients, setting priorities, assigning and delegating tasks to support staff, and making referrals to the interprofessional care team according to established protocols and practice standards.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff, following sound bacteriological and preventative medicine principles, and staying up-to-date with fire and other emergency procedures.
- Establish a therapeutic relationship with patients, demonstrating empathy, trust, and respect, advocating for their rights to privacy, dignity, and access to information, and ensuring their choice and autonomy in decision-making and care planning.
- Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- One (1) year's recent relevant clinical nursing experience in the designated clinical area and completion of post-graduate coursework and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area, proficiency in initiating and maintaining intravenous therapy, and ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment and apply nursing theory and expertise to provide nursing care to patients.
- Ability to recognize acuity changes, determine and deal with emergency situations, patients, and families, establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians and other personnel, and communicate effectively with patients, families/caregivers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team.
