Quality Assurance Manufacturing Engineer

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Assurance Manufacturing Engineer plays a crucial role in assessing processes to identify root causes and impacts of non-conformities. This position focuses on enhancing processes to ensure quality assurance, minimizing cycle times, and supporting LEAN initiatives. The engineer is responsible for tracking corrective actions stemming from Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) to ensure they are completed and maintained effectively. Additionally, this role involves supervising tests on raw materials, in-process evaluations, and finished product samples throughout the manufacturing cycle, while mentoring lab personnel to ensure adherence to quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Non-conformance (NCR) investigations, ensuring accurate identification of root causes and documentation of both immediate and long-term corrective actions.
  • Utilize quality improvement programs to monitor product quality and scrap rates, conducting error analyses and implementing Continuous Improvement Processes.
  • Engage in troubleshooting, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and lead corrective action teams to emphasize the significance of measurement and compliance with the Quality Management System.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and perform measurement system analyses, including statistical process control, while preparing reports that analyze data and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Investigate and resolve quality-related issues or defects within the manufacturing process.
  • Develop and implement quality control protocols and standards for manufacturing processes, ensuring operations align with approved Control Plans and Quality Management System (QMS) standards.
  • Create and maintain material Order Specifications for raw materials.
  • Review and analyze test outcomes to confirm compliance with quality standards, addressing any discrepancies.
  • Analyze Failure Analysis Reporting (FAR) data and trends to promote continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Establish, implement, and uphold quality control processes for laboratory testing.
  • Identify and enhance testing procedures and quality control measures to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of manufacturing processes to ensure adherence to quality standards.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to integrate quality considerations into product design and manufacturing processes.
  • Provide training and support to manufacturing personnel regarding quality standards and best practices.
  • Oversee or conduct testing and validation of new manufacturing processes or equipment.
  • Ensure that new processes are validated and meet the required quality and performance standards prior to full-scale implementation.
  • Support all departments on quality-related matters.
  • Participate as a member of the Quality team, assisting in special projects and decision-making as necessary.
  • Assist other Quality Management team members with audits, NCR investigations, Environmental Health & Safety duties, and other product development activities as required.
  • Adhere to Environmental, Health & Safety policies and report any hazards or incidents to the supervisor.
  • Serve as a backup for other Quality Engineers.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience

Work Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in quality assurance within a manufacturing setting, ideally in the card production sector.
  • Experience with LEAN methodologies and Six Sigma is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) and standards such as ISO 9001.
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Exceptional investigation, problem-solving, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capability to perform root cause analysis of quality issues in a manufacturing context using methodologies like 8D and FMEA.
  • Knowledge of relevant ISO/ANSI/CQM standards for cards and related devices is preferred.
  • Experience in ISO 9001/14001/45001 certified organizations, supporting ongoing compliance and maintenance of these certifications.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC) methods and tools for data analysis.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
Working Conditions
  • 50% office environment with 50% exposure to the plant (lab coat and safety shoes required).
  • May require prolonged periods of sitting while working at a computer.
  • Overtime may be necessary.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
