Job Summary

The Driller Operator will be responsible for operating a Directional Drilling machine and driving the support vehicle used to transport this equipment to various project sites. This is a unionized position with benefits and pension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Load, transport, and unload directional drill equipment and tools in a secure and damage-free manner.
  • Complete a daily inspection of equipment prior to commencing work.
  • Prepare the drilling fluid based on site conditions prior to boring commencing.
  • In conjunction with a locator, operate the directional drill using the selected bore heads and back reamers to place cables and/or duct.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in drilling.
  • Valid Class A driver's license with an 'Z' endorsement.
  • Previous experience working around existing buried utilities.
  • Must be fully proficient with Book 7.
  • Must have previous experience and be proficient in the operation of a directional drill and associated locate set.
  • Ability to read and understand utility locates.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Will work in all weather conditions, day, night, or weekend with possible overnight stays.
  • Must provide a clean driving record (abstract) prior to employment commencing.
  • Able to operate heavy equipment (mini excavators, backhoes).
  • Demonstrated commitment to health and safety and willing to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per legislative and job requirements.
