Deafblind Community Specialist

CNIB Deafblind Community Services is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Specialist, Intervenor to join our team. As a Specialist, Intervenor, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals who are Deafblind, enabling them to maximize their independence and engagement with the world around them.
Key Responsibilities- Provide one-on-one support and guidance to individuals who are Deafblind, facilitating their interaction with their environment.
- Act as a communicator and sighted guide, empowering individuals to gather information, learn concepts, and make informed decisions.
- Collaborate with individuals to determine their level of support, promoting their autonomy and self-advocacy.
- Empower individuals to participate in their community, including recreation, education, and learning opportunities.
- Knowledge of theories and principles of intervention, as well as Deafblindness, Deaf/Deafblind culture, and associated health-related concerns.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
- Self-motivated and flexible, with the ability to multi-task and adapt to changing situations.
- Experience working with diverse client populations, with a willingness to learn and practice alternate formats of communication.
