Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team at McMaster Children's Hospital. As a key member of our pediatric care team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the emotional and psychological well-being of our young patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement developmentally appropriate preparation, education, and therapeutic play strategies to support children and adolescents in coping with medical experiences and hospitalization.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to provide comprehensive care and support to patients and families.
- Conduct assessments and develop interventions to address the psychosocial needs of children and adolescents.
- Provide education and support to healthcare teams on the role of child life specialists and the psychosocial needs of children and adolescents.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices and research in child life and pediatric care.
- Bachelor's degree in Child Life Studies or Master's degree in Child Life Paediatric and Psychosocial care.
- Child Life Certification upon hire or within a year of hire for new graduates.
- Minimum of one year of experience as a Child Life Specialist in an acute, tertiary care setting.
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in assessments, planning, and interventions for children, adolescents, and their families.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.
