Job Overview:
We are looking for a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will be proactive in addressing challenges, self-driven, reliable, and able to collaborate effectively within a team. This position will report to the Distribution Superintendent.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely diagnose, repair, and maintain all systems on trucks and tanker trailers.
- Utilize manufacturer manuals to conduct maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles.
- Manage parts inventory, including tires, fuel, and lubricants.
- Perform road service calls to ensure timely delivery of services to customers.
- Maintain the aesthetic condition of the fleet by repairing and refurbishing body components.
- Conduct thorough preventive maintenance on all rolling stock.
- Communicate effectively with vendors to ensure timely completion of repairs.
- Document corrective maintenance, warranty, and preventive maintenance work orders and track them through maintenance systems.
- Adhere to Standard Maintenance Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures as outlined in the Fleet Operations Manual.
- Utilize various diagnostic and calibration tools (e.g., Fluke meters, pressure gauges).
- Interpret and maintain wiring diagrams for tractor power take-off systems and potentiometer systems.
- Ensure full compliance with trucking industry bulletins and alerts.
- Troubleshoot cryogenic pump systems, including seal replacements and pump rebuilds.
- Diagnose trailer components and operations, including hoses, piping, safety mechanisms, valves, and check valves.
- Understand and troubleshoot power take-off interlock systems and anti-pull away valves.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to learn manufacturer-specific diagnostic software.
- Willingness to work overtime and be on call as needed.
- A minimum of one year of training and/or experience in diesel mechanics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cryogenic systems (including valves and piping).
- ASE certification as a Diesel Mechanic.
- Certification in air brake systems.
- Certification in air conditioning systems.
- New York State Inspection certification.
- CDL Class A with hazmat and tanker endorsements.
- Experience in fabrication and welding.
- Knowledge of 12-volt electrical systems.
