Job Title: Director of Production Operations

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Production Operations to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the production operations of our pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to improve production efficiency, quality, and capacity.
  • Supervise and coordinate daily production activities to ensure alignment with site and corporate KPIs.
  • Represent the production department during regulatory and safety audits, as well as client visits.
  • Support and advise on technical issues, troubleshoot problems, and initiate investigations.
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with subordinates, upper management, and other departments.
  • Support the development and implementation of departmental SOPs and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate quality standards.
  • Provide support in validation and qualification of products, equipment, and utilities.
  • Ensure products are manufactured in compliance with Health Canada, FDA, or other global regulatory standards.
  • Develop staff to ensure a well-motivated, versatile, and fully trained department, including career path and succession plan development.
  • Prepare monthly departmental reports and contribute to budget and capital expenditure preparations.
  • Promote a safe working environment, report potential hazards, and ensure direct reports follow Environmental Health and Safety procedures.
Requirements:
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Science or Chemical Engineering and/or Business.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing direct reports.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Exceptional Good Manufacturing Practices knowledge.
  • Demonstrated decision-making capabilities.
  • Proven ability to coach and develop staff, as well as technical ability to coordinate departmental business activities.
  • Strong leadership, team building, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance/maintain conflicting goals, responsibilities, and priorities of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to motivate and lead.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
  • Proficiency in the English language.
Standards and Expectations:
  • Follow all Environmental Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow team members, modeling positive team principles and partnering to meet project and departmental objectives.
  • Carry out all duties within strict compliance to Patheon quality systems SOPs and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Actively engage in and adhere to departmental systems to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Be client and patient conscious at all times.
  • Understand Key Performance Indicators and strive to improve the performance of the team by identifying areas for system improvements and engaging in problem-solving.
  • Model positive thinking and be open to change, motivating the team to adapt to shifts in priorities and new ways of working.
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement in the execution of procedures.
  • Communicate risks to timelines in a proactive manner.
  • Consistently strive to improve skills and knowledge in related fields.
Physical Requirements:
  • Light physical effort and fatigue.
  • Walks, sits, or stands for limited periods.
  • May require occasional equipment operation, including keyboard equipment.
  • Lifts light items for limited duration.
  • Typically located in a comfortable indoor area.
  • May be exposed to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes, or odors, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment may be required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator on occasion.
