Your Role

Key Responsibilities

The Commercial Credit Manager plays a pivotal role in providing daily leadership, mentorship, and direction to team members while ensuring operational efficiency and productivity. The responsibilities include:
  • Reviewing and approving Credit Risk Assessments (CRAs) for originations, renewals, assumptions, and ad hoc requests within designated limits.
  • Managing all aspects of the CMHC portfolio (excluding annual reviews), including monitoring and processing maturities, renewals, and loan extensions, as well as conducting quarterly servicing audits of CMHC loan files.
  • Evaluating new deals from servicers to assign them to the appropriate team member.
The Manager is also tasked with ensuring adherence to departmental guidelines, procedures, policies, and credit risk objectives, exercising sound judgment while maintaining service and credit risk standards. Additional credit-related and administrative duties, including reporting, are essential to support senior management and regulatory compliance. The Manager will communicate and collaborate with external partners and internal departments within the Credit & Risk Management group.

The Manager will conduct performance reviews, set targets for team members, and participate in the recruitment process for new hires.

As needed, the Manager will underwrite various commercial mortgage products for review by the Senior Manager, ensuring compliance with established policies and standards, meeting service goals, and contributing to the achievement of team targets.

Core Responsibilities Include

  • Daily review and approval of loan analyses (CRAs) submitted by commercial mortgage underwriters, ensuring timely closure of approved deals.
  • Providing ongoing training and support to staff, including regular meetings and one-on-one discussions.
  • Managing CMHC portfolio activities, including proactive management of upcoming maturities and coordinating quarterly servicing audits.
  • Communicating with internal and external contacts to ensure efficient transaction processing and superior customer service.
  • Handling various administrative and reporting duties required for departmental and company needs.
Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in underwriting commercial real estate transactions, including CMHC-insured multi-unit mortgages.
  • Post-secondary education in business or finance is preferred.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
  • Strong leadership and coaching abilities, setting a positive example for colleagues.
  • Knowledge of AML/ATF regulations and corporate/legal documentation for commercial real estate.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
