Position Overview
The Director of Government and Community Relations plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between the government and the African Nova Scotian community. This position is responsible for leading a team of experienced professionals in policy development, strategic planning, and relationship management to ensure that the needs and priorities of the community are effectively represented and addressed.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic policy agenda that proactively addresses emerging trends and issues affecting the community.
- Provide policy advice to senior government officials, ensuring alignment with the government's strategic objectives.
- Enhance performance management systems within the department to track and measure outcomes effectively.
- Establish an accountability framework to ensure transparency and efficiency in reporting to stakeholders.
- Conduct ongoing research and analysis to inform policy decisions and foster innovative solutions to social challenges.
- Lead the development of resources and training programs to enhance the capacity of staff in policy and planning roles.
- Oversee the acquisition and management of human and financial resources to achieve departmental goals.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of government operations and significant experience working with marginalized communities, particularly the African Nova Scotian community. A bachelor's degree in business or public administration is required, along with expertise in policy analysis, strategic planning, and project management.
Strong leadership and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to navigate complex situations and foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders. A proven track record of making informed decisions in ambiguous environments is critical for success in this role.
