Position Overview:

As a Junior Carpenter Assistant, you will collaborate closely with a lead carpenter, contributing to various commercial, residential, and other construction initiatives. Your responsibilities will encompass drywall installation and repairs, laying different types of flooring, and handling ceilings, paneling, trim, and framing tasks. Proficiency in using a range of hand and power tools is essential, along with maintaining them in safe working condition. Upholding site safety is crucial in this role, as you will be expected to lead by example and guide less experienced team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver training on the safe operation of hand tools and power equipment.
  • Gain comprehensive knowledge from foundational work to framing and beyond.
  • Support other trades on-site as necessary.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting and finishing, ensuring drywall is properly sanded and primed.
  • Execute layout preparations in compliance with building codes, utilizing measuring tools.
  • Occasional painting duties may be required on-site.
  • Construct foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect wall and roof systems.
  • Fit and install trim elements, including doors, stairs, molding, and hardware.
  • Maintain, repair, and renovate residential and wooden structures in various settings.

Qualifications:

  • At least 0.5 years of experience as a Junior Carpenter or 1 year of skilled labor in construction.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing for extended periods and lifting loads up to 90 lbs.
  • Desire to develop carpentry skills further.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic understanding of all aspects of carpentry.
  • Comfortable with heights and managing a team in busy, high-pressure environments.
  • Mathematical aptitude.

Work Environment:

  • Availability for 24/7 shifts may be necessary, with overtime compensated accordingly.
  • Travel to various job sites may be required.
  • Safety equipment is mandatory, including steel-toed boots and safety glasses.
  • Exposure to trade-related hazards.
  • Work will be conducted both indoors in confined spaces and outdoors.
  • Appropriate work attire is expected (e.g., jeans, long-sleeve shirts, hoodies).
