About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Bridge Design Engineer to join our team at Canadian National Railway. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and leading design projects for bridges across our network, ensuring compliance with internal policies and industry guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate consultant design assignments and lead design projects for bridges
  • Design railway bridges, including preliminary and detailed designs, and provide costing information and resolve queries during bridge construction
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and project schedules to minimize costs and disruptions to railway operations
  • Provide engineering support and training to staff members and field forces during construction
  • Prepare fabrication specifications and tender documents, and handle and track-outsourced service contracts, reviews, and processes invoicing
Safety

As a Bridge Design Engineer, you will be responsible for verifying and ensuring compliance of work or actions prescribed in engineering drawings and specifications, conducting in-field and documentary audits of bridge inspection reports, and participating in construction safety audits.

Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of General Engineering experience, including 2 years in bridge design with a railway company, engineering consulting firm, or research facility
  • Experience with AREMA guidelines for railway structures or other North American structural design codes
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Professional Engineer Licence (PE or P.Eng), and valid Driver's Licence
