Overview

Reporting to the Manager of Nutrition and Dietary Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation and serving of meals to residents, ensuring the highest standards of food quality, cleanliness, and sanitation are maintained in the kitchen and dining areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals to residents;
  • Uphold cleanliness and sanitation standards for all kitchen equipment;
  • Inform the Supervisor/Cook regarding low food or supply inventory;
  • Receive, label, store, and inspect food and supplies in designated storage areas;
  • Prepare food, snacks, and desserts catering to regular, texture-modified, and therapeutic diets;
  • Ensure meals are appealing, served at appropriate temperatures, and in correct portion sizes;
  • Report any safety hazards to the supervisor promptly;
  • Clean the dining area, wash kitchen equipment, and manage waste disposal;
  • Adhere to the assigned daily cleaning and work activity schedule;
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid food handler certificate;
  • Experience in institutional, healthcare, restaurant, or hospitality food service;
  • Alternatively, candidates may include:
    – Students employed on a seasonal or part-time basis who have completed a food handler training program;
    – Individuals meeting the qualifications of a cook; or
    – Those holding a post-secondary diploma in food and nutrition management or a degree in food and nutrition.
  • Additional educational requirements as specified in relevant legislation;
  • Experience in long-term care or healthcare settings is preferred;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Bilingual in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) is an asset;
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds;
  • Capability to maneuver a 500-pound food warming cart;
  • Willingness to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
