Job Overview

Sport Chek is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Department Manager to lead our Hardgoods department. As a key member of our store team, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, driving sales growth, and maintaining a high level of operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure seamless execution of customer experience initiatives and resolve customer concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide exceptional omni-channel experience by offering in-store and eCommerce sales, and fulfilling eCommerce orders within defined service levels.
  • Lead the implementation and execution of visual compliance standards, store maintenance, and pricing standards.
  • Develop and execute standard operating procedures (SOPs) to drive efficiency and productivity.
  • Deliver annual corporate shrink targets through team education, enforcement of loss prevention and audit standards, and rigid inventory control.
  • Ensure compliance with all corporate policies and procedures, including loss prevention, cash handling, and occupational health and safety.
  • Collaborate with the tech shop team to execute service programs, including maintenance and compliance standards.
  • Create efficient store weekly scheduling for sales and support functions.
  • Provide continuous feedback and coaching to team members based on key metrics and observed behaviors.
  • Develop and implement development plans for staff, and conduct ongoing coaching to improve team performance.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, promoting Sport Chek's programs, brands, and people internally and externally.
  • Effectively problem-solve, delegate, and follow up on tasks assigned to team members.
  • Maintain Sport Chek's performance management expectations, including progressive discipline where necessary.
  • Promote and maintain a positive and motivating work environment that is safe, inclusive, and empowering.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop department and store teams through setting expectations, communication, coaching, feedback, and ongoing support.
  • Results-driven with the ability to build and manage daily and weekly game plans for the department and store.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
  • Superior training and mentoring skills.
  • 3-5 years of retail management experience required.
  • High energy, enthusiasm, and a drive to succeed.
  • Basic computer skills required.
