Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Disability Overpayment Specialist to join our Finance team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for analyzing, investigating, and reconciling disability claims overpayments and recoveries. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our collections processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and investigate disability claims overpayments and recoveries, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and case law precedents.
  • Review and reconcile disability benefit payment history to determine potential recovery quotes, invoices, and payments.
  • Calculate pre- and post-legal settlement of overpayment on ICBC, WorkSafeBC, and Canadian Pension Plan (CPP) approval.
  • Negotiate settlement amounts with lawyers and payment arrangement schedules with clients or members in accordance with established practice and parameters.
  • Represent Pacific Blue Cross and its entities at Small Claims Court as required, preparing documentation and evidence, and negotiating settlement and/or payment arrangement with clients within established parameters.
  • Generate monthly reports and statements for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee maintenance of collections management system, troubleshooting issues, updating reports, and posting transactions.
  • Provide technical advice on collection practices, procedures, and tools to team members and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • 3 years previous related experience in collections administration, including demonstrated experience in disability insurance claims collections, or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of a Financial Accounting course (36 hours) or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Business Law course (36 hours) or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Business Communications course (36 hours) or equivalent.
  • Completion of an Intermediate Excel course (18 hours) or equivalent.
  • Completion of an Intermediate Word course (18 hours) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Intermediate Word and Intermediate Excel, typing 40 wpm, keystroking 10,000 ksph, and math.

About the Position

This is a temporary, full-time contract position, with a duration of 12 months. The successful candidate will be part of the CUPE 1816 Bargaining Unit and will receive hourly rates and wage increases in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
