Key Responsibilities:
- Grievance Management: Investigate, represent, and present grievances at various levels of arbitration and hearings.
- Member Advocacy: Build relationships with workers, management, and the community through workplace visits. Advocate for members on issues related to health and safety, human rights, and accommodations.
- Member Engagement: Mentor and train stewards, recruit new members, and facilitate union training sessions.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate records in the organization's database regarding member information and labor relations processes.
- Project Involvement: Draft agreements for upcoming initiatives and ensure compliance while recruiting members for participation in committees.
- Union Organizing: Engage with unrepresented workplaces and promote union membership through outreach and education.
- Collective Bargaining: Serve as a spokesperson in negotiations, collaborating with member committees to formulate proposals and uphold collective agreements.
Qualifications:
- 2 to 5 years of experience in a union representative role or as a steward.
- A degree or diploma in Labour Studies or a related discipline.
- Familiarity with labor laws and regulations, including the Labour Relations Act and Employment Standards Act.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and adept at conducting online research.
- A valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required.
- Exceptional communication and public speaking skills to build trust with members.
- Able to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels within the organization and external partners.
- Demonstrated leadership skills to inspire and guide both members and employers.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills for independent work.
- Active listening skills with a proactive approach to addressing member concerns.
- Experience in negotiations and achieving favorable outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with UnionWare software.
- Fluency in English and proficiency in an additional language.
