Job Title: Trainmaster

Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS) have merged to form CPKC, the only truly North American railway. As a Trainmaster, you will play a critical role in the efficient movement of traffic within the road territory and yard-terminal, ensuring safe and cost-effective operations that maximize fluidity and achieve Local Service Operating Plan (LSOP) and Operating Plan compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, organize, and execute the daily yard-terminal/road operating plan to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Supervise operating crews, Yardmasters, support staff, and Assistant Trainmasters to ensure compliance with safety protocols and operating procedures.
  • Investigate safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Conduct efficiency tests, train rides, and safety-related activities to support a safe and efficient operation.
  • Participate in safety and business plan roll-outs across the region and identify opportunities to increase yard/road fluidity and productivity.
  • Lead a team of employees, including recruitment, development, and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with CPKC's policies, collective agreements, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage inventory, rail cars, and assets within your area of responsibility.
  • Develop a strong understanding of business requirements, service commitments, and customer service penalty conditions.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous railway experience, preferably in operations or management.
  • Ability to understand and comply with safety protocols, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Flexibility to work in a dynamic environment, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
