Purpose of the Position:
- Develop and execute daily yard-terminal/road operating plans to ensure safe and cost-effective operations.
- Lead the safe and tactical execution of the Operating Plan through active supervision of operating crews, Yardmasters, support staff, and Assistant Trainmasters.
- Accountable for inputs and outputs of safety, service, productivity, and financial metrics, adhering to corporate values and regulatory requirements.
Position Accountabilities:
- Ensure the safe and on-time operations of all trains, contributing to the overall execution of the Local Service Operating Plan and Operating Plan.
- Conduct efficiency tests, train rides, and safety-related activities to support a safe and efficient operation.
- Investigate safety rule and policy failures, identify causes, and implement corrective actions or action plans.
- Participate in safety and business plan roll-outs across the region.
- Identify and act on opportunities to increase yard/road fluidity and productivity.
- Create and manage a strong team of employees, including determining optimal numbers, recruitment, and development.
- Ensure compliance with CPKC's policies and collective agreements, recommending changes as necessary.
- Deliver optimal results against performance and financial metrics through maximum asset utilization.
Position Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Previous railway experience necessary.
- Operations-related experience considered an asset.
- Ability to understand the Operating Plan and Local Service Operating Plan, ensuring compliance in the yard.
- Conductor or Locomotive Engineer certification an asset.
- Rules qualification (CROR - Canadian Rail Operating Rules) required.
- Maintain certifications and licenses, such as Engineer Certification.
- Ability to analyze and resolve local issues related to interpreting variances to operating protocols.
- Knowledge of and ability to conduct investigations.
- Ability to accept change and drill down to understand root causes and resolve complex issues.
