Key Responsibilities:
The primary duty of the selected candidate is to design and deliver a theoretically and methodologically robust course at the university level, adhering to the outlined course specifications. In alignment with a technology-driven educational framework, the Adjunct Instructor will employ a variety of inclusive teaching methodologies and assessment techniques to facilitate learning. The instructor will be responsible for preparing, presenting, and evaluating all course materials and assignments, as well as being accessible for student consultations throughout and after the course duration.
This role is part of the collective bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will adhere to the stipulations of the collective agreement between the institution and PSAC. Candidates must confirm their legal eligibility to work in Canada for the entire contract period.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong potential for exceptional teaching contributions, with a proven track record in educational settings, particularly at the pre-service and K-12 levels.
Essential Skills:
- A demonstrated commitment to innovative and inclusive teaching practices;
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment;
- Outstanding communication skills, fostering effective relationships with faculty, staff, and students;
- Strong organizational abilities to manage course delivery, assignment grading, and timely responses to student inquiries;
- Solid understanding of curricular and pedagogical design, educational research, and assessment, while integrating various digital technologies;
- Evidence of understanding how educators learn and develop;
- Familiarity with the core content required for accreditation in both course and practicum areas;
- Knowledge of the educational landscape in Ontario;
- Openness to diverse perspectives on teaching and learning;
- Experience in teaching that promotes reflection, creativity, innovation, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration;
- Successful integration of learning theories into instructional practices;
- Ability to effectively plan, instruct, assess, and cultivate learning communities;
- Capacity to reflect on and adapt one's professional practices as necessary;
- Integration of digital technologies into instructional methodologies.
Educational Background:
- A Master's degree in education is mandatory;
- Membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers is required;
- A PhD is considered an asset.
Experience:
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Effective teaching experience within K-12 educational settings;
- Successful integration of technology as purposeful tools for learning;
- Experience mentoring teacher candidates during practicum placements;
- Evidence-based or research-informed teaching practices;
- Experience in pre-service teacher education programs (preferred);
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS);
- Experience in online educational environments.
