Program Leader Overview
This role involves working in various educational settings, providing essential support and programming for school-aged children.Role Summary:
The Before and After School Program Leader is expected to commit to 15-30 hours per week. Opportunities may also arise for additional responsibilities, including providing individualized support for children with special needs. Program Leaders will be stationed in different educational institutions, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children during the designated before and after school hours. This position is particularly suitable for individuals seeking flexible work arrangements, such as students or parents. Applicants must be at least sixteen years old and legally eligible to work. Program Leaders may have the option to bring their own children to work, subject to management approval. Work Schedule
Program Leaders will typically work morning and/or afternoon shifts on school operational days, with no shifts scheduled during professional development days or school holidays. Morning shifts usually commence around 7:15 am, concluding before the first bell, while afternoon shifts generally run from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Shifts are compensated for a minimum of 3 hours each. A commitment of at least 15 hours per week is requested, unless seeking casual employment.Responsibilities of a Program Leader
The role of a Program Leader is dynamic and requires adaptability to meet the needs of the children. Key responsibilities include:- Planning engaging activities that foster skill development and align with healthy childhood growth principles.
- Treating all children and youth with respect and integrity.
- Supervising groups of children, ensuring their physical and emotional safety.
- Implementing positive behavior management strategies.
- Interacting with participants in a caring and understanding manner.
- Maintaining open communication with parents and guardians.
- Collaborating effectively with fellow team members and school staff.
- Keeping accurate attendance records and submitting necessary documentation.
Support and Resources
Program Leaders will receive support from a team of managers and supervisors who assist with various aspects of the role, including:- Providing necessary program supplies.
- Coordinating schedules and time off.
- Conducting program evaluations.
- Offering problem-solving assistance and resources.
- Communicating with parents and school administration as required.
- Processing payroll timesheets biweekly.
Qualifications for Program Leaders
Ideal candidates should possess:- A minimum Canadian Language Benchmark Level 6 (preferred).
- CPR and First Aid Certification (required within the first two months of employment).
- Relevant experience in childcare, education, or coaching is an asset.
- Additional mandatory training will be provided upon hiring.
