Position: Food Process Engineer (Intermediate)

Location: Lethbridge, AB

Key Responsibilities:
  • Report directly to the Director of Operations, overseeing and supporting the engineering requirements for various client projects.
  • Engage in client consultations to define project needs and specifications.
  • Ensure all project phases comply with relevant codes, standards, and defined scopes, timelines, and budgets.
  • Develop comprehensive designs, drawings, and specifications at conceptual, preliminary, and detailed levels.
  • Review engineering outputs to maintain quality standards and identify project risks.
  • Conduct work in alignment with the Professional Practice Management Plan and established guidelines.
  • Prepare technical reports and analyses to substantiate design submissions.
  • Evaluate shop drawings for compliance and assist in formulating engineering standards.
  • Solicit proposals from suppliers and contractors, ensuring timely follow-up.
  • Conduct site visits for project-related assessments.
  • Manage deliverables and project execution, dedicating approximately 50% of workload to each.
  • Collaborate within multi-disciplinary design teams across North America.
  • Facilitate project team meetings.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of local codes and industry standards.
  • Establish a reference set of standards and internal best practices.
  • Propose and advocate for initiatives aimed at enhancing operational procedures.
  • Foster positive interactions with clients and other consulting disciplines.
  • Identify opportunities for business development and organizational growth across various regions.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related fields.
  • 3-10 years of progressive experience in process design within the food, beverage, or biotech sectors.
  • Experience in designing fluid and bulk material handling processes, including process flow diagrams, heat and material balances, and P&IDs.
  • Expertise in designing sanitary process systems, including piping, vessels, and CIP systems.
  • Familiarity with CFIA and HACCP regulations.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles is advantageous.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Provincial (P.Eng) or State (PE) designation or eligibility.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Strong leadership, relationship management, organizational planning, and project management skills, alongside technical expertise.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in methodologies and evaluation criteria.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and post-implementation efforts.
  • Capacity to influence clients, suppliers, and peers to adopt best practices in engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey knowledge effectively.
  • Aptitude for engaging and motivating others to achieve their maximum potential.
  • Versatility in disciplines beyond formal training is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Revit.
  • Willingness to travel to manufacturing sites as required.
