Job Title: Legal Professor at Regular Part-Time Position

This opportunity is about interpreting and applying primary legislation (statutes made by constitutionally established parliaments and legislatures) and delegated legislation (regulations, by-laws, and other legislative texts made under delegated authority). The focus is on developing analytical skills and argumentation methods to resolve disputes concerning legislative texts.

About the University:

The University of Ottawa's Common Law Section is seeking a highly qualified Legal Professor to join our team. As a leader in the legal field, you will be responsible for teaching and mentoring students in the area of statutory interpretation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teaching and Course Development: Develop and deliver high-quality course materials and lectures on statutory interpretation, ensuring that students gain a deep understanding of the subject matter.
  • Research and Scholarship: Engage in ongoing research and scholarship in the area of statutory interpretation, staying up-to-date with the latest developments and trends.
  • Student Supervision: Provide guidance and support to students in their research and academic pursuits, helping them to develop their analytical and argumentation skills.
  • Service and Community Engagement: Contribute to the University's service and community engagement initiatives, promoting the values of the University and the Common Law Section.
Requirements:

To be considered for this position, you must have a strong academic background, including an LL.B., J.D., or equivalent, as well as a good standing membership in the Law Society of Ontario. Significant experience in statutory interpretation is essential, and previous teaching experience is an asset.
