Role Summary
The Personal Support Worker/Developmental Service Worker for Respite Services will operate within the guidelines of Continuous Quality Improvement, adhering to the VON District Philosophy, policies, procedures, and applicable legislation. This role is essential in advancing the VON Mission Statement by developing and promoting programs that cater to community needs. Respite workers deliver essential support services in clients' homes, enhancing their well-being and providing relief to caregivers.
Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidates will be tasked with delivering companionship, personal care, and health maintenance services to clients in their residences, in alignment with VON's philosophy, policies, standards, and legal requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Certification as a Personal Support Worker or Developmental Service Worker
- Current Standard First Aid Certification
- Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) training is advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience with individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
- Certification in Dementia Care or equivalent training is beneficial.
- Flexibility in working hours is essential.
- Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Capability to work independently and resolve issues effectively
- Adaptability to changing environments and diverse social and economic conditions
- Possession of a personal vehicle along with a valid driver's license and proof of insurance
- A current and original satisfactory Criminal Records Check is mandatory upon employment commencement
- A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be necessary
- Proficiency in French is an asset in designated areas
Work Environment and Physical Demands: Fast-paced setting; Attention to detail; Ability to lift and carry using proper techniques; Capable of bending, pushing, pulling, gripping, reaching, kneeling, and crouching with good body mechanics; Walking, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs; Fine motor skills required.
