The Tax Strategy Senior Manager is responsible for overseeing the tax planning and compliance functions for both corporate and local tax obligations in Canada and the United States. This position entails managing the planning and submission of corporate tax returns, as well as ensuring adherence to transfer pricing policies across various entities and compliance with customs valuation regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee tax planning and compliance for Canadian and US corporations, including federal corporate taxes, state income taxes, sales and use taxes, property taxes, franchise taxes, and commercial activity taxes.
- Lead the establishment and compliance of Sales/Use tax and State Income tax Nexus for the US corporation.
- Formulate and execute tax strategies aimed at reducing the organization's tax burden while maintaining compliance with relevant laws.
- Establish and uphold effective control measures for all facets of the tax process.
• Manage tax audits by preparing necessary documentation, engaging with tax authorities, and negotiating settlements when necessary. - Supervise the preparation of tax-related financial reports, ensuring accurate representation of tax positions in financial statements.
- Provide tax-related counsel and support to senior management and various departments within the organization, particularly regarding mergers, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives.
- Assist in drafting the tax budget and forecasts, monitoring performance against these objectives.
- Oversee transfer pricing and customs valuation policies, delivering management reports for multiple entities to optimize tax exposure.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- CPA designation is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in tax planning, compliance, and strategy.
- Familiarity with federal, state, provincial, and local reporting requirements in Canada and the U.S.
- Proven ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with stakeholders and communicating the advantages of tax initiatives.
- Self-motivated individual with strong communication abilities.
- Results-driven leader with keen attention to detail and exceptional analytical skills.
- Adaptable change leader capable of responding to shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated success in leading and executing large-scale projects.
- Experience in managing dynamic environments with evolving deadlines and priorities.
- Willingness to travel to various site locations as necessary.
