Position Overview
Mitten Building Products is in search of a motivated Financial Cost Analyst with a strong interest in the manufacturing sector. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, this role is pivotal in delivering comprehensive reporting and analytical insights to the Siding Manufacturing operations and the Canadian business unit, while ensuring compliance with established accounting standards and company policies. The successful candidate will facilitate informed decision-making by leadership, contributing to the company's strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct month-end closing processes for the plant, including general entries and reconciliations.
- Create performance reports for plant leadership following month-end closures.
- Analyze, report, and visualize trends in production data as necessary.
- Post journal entries and maintain general ledgers and financial statements.
- Assist in evaluating plant efficiencies, including scrap rates, downtime, and production rates.
- Ensure the accuracy of the costing system through regular updates and reviews.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of all manufactured SKUs and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to guarantee precise production information and costs.
- Calculate costs associated with materials, labor, and manufacturing overhead.
- Assess, cost, and provide recommendations on the profitability of special orders.
- Prepare daily dashboard reports on production and sales activities.
- Support the preparation of manufacturing operating expense budgets and provide general assistance to the Canadian business unit.
- Process and report quarterly gainshare results for the plant.
- Maintain accounting controls for materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods inventories.
- Review and report on material variances and assist with raw material planning.
- Support monthly financial forecasting activities.
- Assist with internal and external audit requirements.
- Contribute to year-end closing activities, including audits and inventory management.
- Prepare ad hoc reports for management and the manufacturing team.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Education
- A degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- Post-graduate studies or progress towards a CPA designation is considered an asset.
Experience
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant finance experience.
- At least 6 months of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Prior experience in the building products industry is advantageous.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- A collaborative team player with effective communication skills across various departments.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with precision.
- Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly Sage 300, is beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt to new challenges.
- Experience in a SOX-compliant environment is a plus.
