Introduction to Gender Studies: A Foundational Course

Course Overview: This introductory course serves as a gateway into the essential themes and concepts that will be examined throughout the Women and Gender Studies curriculum. Students will engage in an interactive and thought-provoking exploration of historical narratives, social theories, political frameworks, policies, artistic expressions, and cultural phenomena through a gendered perspective.
Course Content: The course provides a comprehensive interdisciplinary examination of the significant 'waves' of women's movements advocating for equality on a global scale. It also offers insights into the evolution of Women and Gender Studies as a vital area of academic inquiry and feminist thought.
Enrollment Information: Anticipated course enrollment is approximately 200 students.
Teaching Assistance: Estimated support from teaching assistants is around 180 hours.
Class Schedule: Classes are scheduled for Tuesdays from 9 AM to 11 AM.
Work Hours: Instructors are expected to be available on Tuesdays from 3 PM to 7 PM.
Compensation: The hourly wage for this position is set at $52.26.
Qualifications: Candidates should possess a Master's or Ph.D. in Gender, Feminist, and/or Sexuality Studies or a closely related field. A Ph.D. in Gender, Feminist, or Sexuality Studies is preferred. Prior experience teaching a similar course is advantageous.
Responsibilities: Duties may encompass leading small tutorial groups, evaluating assignments, conducting scheduled office hours, and supervising examinations, along with any additional responsibilities as assigned by the department head.

This position is governed by the collective agreement for academic staff.
It is acknowledged that some job postings may be provisional, pending final course decisions and enrollment figures.
Preference in hiring will be granted to qualified individuals who have advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with the relevant collective agreement.
Note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows affiliated with the institution are subject to a different collective agreement and should refrain from applying for positions under this agreement.
