Job Summary

This position plays a key role in driving the strategic direction of Thompson Rivers University's web presence. As a Web Development and Design Specialist, you will be responsible for planning, designing, and implementing web strategies that enhance the user experience and appeal of TRU's online properties.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Web Development and Design: Design, develop, and maintain TRU's web properties, ensuring they are visually appealing, user-friendly, and meet the institution's brand standards.
  2. Template Development: Develop templates for use in TRU's content management systems, ensuring consistency and efficiency in content creation.
  3. Web Site Structure and Design: Design, propose, and deliver web site structure, wireframes, mockups, creative concepts, images, graphics, and other visual displays that align with TRU's brand and user experience goals.
  4. Graphic Guidelines and Visual Identity: Provide coaching, guidance, and oversight to ensure TRU's graphic guidelines and visual identity are implemented correctly and effectively online.
  5. Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilize data to support evidence-based enhancements to content, information architecture, and design using website analytics, competitive analyses, usability and focus group feedback, and similar research methods.
  6. Marketing and Communications Campaigns: Design and execute marketing and communications campaigns and strategies that align with TRU's institutional objectives.
  7. Web Design Standards and Style Guides: Develop and maintain web design standards, style guides, and user manuals for web development and interface design.
  8. Customer Needs Analysis: Analyze customer needs to design and implement technical solutions that meet department and university goals.
  9. Quality Customer Service: Maintain a high level of quality customer service standards in dealing with and responding to questions and problems, including development and delivery of technical training.
  10. Brand Representation: Ensure the website is a showcase for TRU's brand, reflecting the institution's values and mission.
  11. Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and demonstrate new web technology as it becomes available to determine how it can benefit TRU.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience: Five (5) years' related experience, including graphic user interface design, hand coding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Sublime Text, and other modern web development tools, maintaining websites and applications that use PHP utilizing MySQL, and using Google Analytics.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated ability to develop responsive web solutions, proficient at designing visually attractive page and site mockups, competent at converting page mockups into functioning sites, knowledge of current and emerging web design, web-based marketing, and UI/UX standards, demonstrated ability to create graphics that meet current industry standards, skills in graphic design and front-end web development, organizational skills, advanced interpersonal skills, ability to facilitate training and coaching, and understanding of website metrics, data analysis, behavioral analysis, and reporting tools.
