Pain and Symptom Management/Palliative Care Physician

BC Cancer is seeking a part-time Pain and Symptom Management/Palliative Care Physician to join our team at the Cancer Centre in Kelowna, BC. This position is part-time and intended to be combined with palliative care work for Interior Health.

About the Role

The successful applicant will participate in the clinical, educational, and research activities of the Pain and Symptom Management/Palliative Care Team. This includes addressing palliative care needs of ambulant cancer patients, facilitating a coordinated approach to palliative care, consulting and educating other BC Cancer care teams, and engaging in research and education interests in palliative and supportive care.

Responsibilities
  • Address palliative care needs of ambulant cancer patients, integrated with oncological management, including those in the survivorship context.
  • Facilitate a coordinated approach and ensure continuity of palliative care support through effective communication and transfers back to community-level physicians, home care/palliative care services.
  • Consult and educate other BC Cancer care teams, and community-based care providers.
  • Engage in research and education interests in palliative and supportive care.
  • Provide public and provider education on palliative care and symptom management for oncology patients.
Requirements
  • Eligibility for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
  • Palliative Medicine Subspecialty Accreditation or equivalent training and experience, or a Certificate of Added Competency in Palliative Care (CAC) for CCFP applicants.
  • Eligibility for appointment to medical staff of BC Cancer, and Kelowna General Hospital.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
