Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Support Professional to join our team at WJS Canada. As a Support Professional, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in achieving their personal goals and living independently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and Empowerment: Assist and support individuals in developing and achieving their personal goals, promoting independence and self-advocacy.
  • Basic Needs Support: Ensure individuals' basic needs are met, including hygiene, personal care, life skills, and social/occupational skills.
  • Observation and Documentation: Observe and document physical, developmental, and psychological needs of individuals in service.
  • Facility Maintenance: Assist with day-to-day operation and maintenance of the residence/program facility, including food preparation, cleaning, and other tasks as needed.
  • Transportation and Community Involvement: Participate in and support planning for safe transportation of individuals to vocational, recreational, and leisure activities, promoting social interaction and community involvement.
  • Service Planning and Evaluation: Contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of individual service plans, program-specific policies, and procedures.
  • Professional Development: Further develop skills and knowledge in human practice fields.
  • Communication and Documentation: Communicate and document information related to program changes and service recipient changes to peers, ministry representatives, and other stakeholders as required.
Requirements
  • Experience: One (1) year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Education: Minimum Grade 12 or Diploma/Degree in Disabilities Studies, Social Work, Human Services, Special Education, or equivalent.
  • Driver's License: A valid Class 5 Driver License with a clear driving abstract and reliable transportation.
  • Criminal Record Check: A clear criminal record check and social services involvement check.
  • Attitude and Skills: A positive attitude and belief in the rights and responsibilities of individuals with disabilities to define and pursue their life choices, as well as skills in assisting individuals with anger management, daily living, self-help, and other areas.
  • Certifications: First Aid/CPR Certification, Crisis Prevention Intervention, Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, Proactive Procedures, and Behavioural Strategies.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of basic health and safety rules and guidelines for personal health and safety.
