Job Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Environmental Services is responsible for overseeing the housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance divisions to ensure exceptional standards of cleanliness and sanitation. This role is crucial in delivering quality linen services and maintaining a safe, efficient physical environment, all in accordance with the organization's policies and relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all facets of recruitment and performance evaluation of departmental personnel; including scheduling and staff development through tailored orientation and training programs.
  • Oversee contractors' activities to guarantee compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets; oversee inventory management and procurement of necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain comprehensive departmental policy and procedure documentation; actively participate in leadership team initiatives and responsibilities, including involvement in committees and reporting duties.
  • Conduct contract bidding in collaboration with consultants, subject to Administrator approval.
  • Ensure the quality and quantity of services and products delivered by departmental staff meet established standards.
  • Manage all aspects of the departmental safety program, including preventive maintenance and equipment repairs.
  • Keep accurate records, statistics, and reports in compliance with organizational policies and applicable legislation.

Required Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma is essential.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practices or prevailing standards related to housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance is necessary.
  • An environmental services certification from a recognized program is required.
  • Experience in managing human and financial resources is advantageous.
  • Background in a long-term care environment is preferred.
  • Formal training in building maintenance or possession of an Operator B Certificate is a plus.
  • Health and safety certification is beneficial.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
