About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Construction Labourer to join our team at Wapiti Gravel Suppliers, a subsidiary of Colas Western Canada Inc.

As a key member of our base crew, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our construction sites. Your duties will include:

  • Loading, unloading, and moving construction materials around the worksite
  • Removing large rocks and debris turned up by heavy equipment, ensuring all revealed rocks and debris are clear before equipment makes further passes
  • Carrying out traffic control plans by placing, removing, covering, and uncovering traffic control signs, cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices
  • Signaling operators of construction equipment to facilitate aligned and movement of materials
  • Assisting in the installation of culverts to drain water and using a generator and pump to remove rainwater from ditches on the job site
  • Using a rake or shovel to spread gravel and other construction materials over road surfaces, building or decreasing slopes, or leveling asphalt to grade specifications
  • Shoveling test holes by locating markers/flags and quarantining any exposed pipes
  • Ensuring the worksite is organized and free of clutter, rubble, and garbage
  • Shoveling asphalt mix into areas inaccessible to paving machines and compacting mix using rakes and hand tampers
  • Operating equipment such as pneumatic hammers, vibrators, tampers, and skid steer when needed

You will be working in an outdoor setting, which may include inclement weather, heat, and humidity, as well as exposure to dust and asphalt. You must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • A Class 5 Driver's License (preferred)
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • A sense of urgency to meet deadlines
