Job Title: Program Assistant

Baycrest is seeking a skilled and compassionate Program Assistant to join our team. As a Program Assistant, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional care and support to our residents and their families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Embodies the model of care and its philosophy and values into daily practice
  • Initiates and maintains relationships with residents, families, and care providers to enable trust and open communication
  • Provides daily care experiences to residents, enabling choice and autonomy while supporting physical and personal care needs
  • Supports the delivery of mealtime experiences, including setup, food preparation, and feeding
  • Co-designs and operationalizes individualized Possibilities Plans with residents and families
  • Executes daily individual program plans, group social, recreational, and activities in partnership with recreationists and the Possibilities Lead, Curator
  • Manages responsive behaviors through non-pharmacological interventions, including activities and strategies
  • Prepares daily programming space and activities for individuals and groups based on their choices, interests, and daily goals
Qualifications:
  • Current P.S.W. certificate from a recognized community college or educational institute or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Registration in good standing with the Ontario Personal Support Worker Registry
  • Completion of certificates in gerontology, activation, or related coursework is preferred
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or recognized equivalent is required
  • Grade 12 English equivalency
  • Certificate in U-First and/or Alzheimer Society for Dementia Care Training Program (DCTP) preferred
  • Completion of Mental Health First Aid preferred
  • Certificate in Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) is preferred
  • Certificate in Montessori Activities for Dementia is preferred
  • Food Handling Certification preferred
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Experience working with individuals living with dementia in residential settings
  • Experience working with individuals with responsive behaviors
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team, and effectively manage challenging situations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
