Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Cross Border Heavy Haul/Flat Bed Driver to operate from our Bedford, NS location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transporting freight over long distances within Canada and the United States.
  • Loading, transporting, and unloading a variety of freight commodities.
  • Reporting any road incidents to dispatch promptly.
  • Adhering to all relevant traffic regulations.
  • Conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the trailer, documenting any issues.
  • Maintaining an electronic log of all driving activities.
  • Notifying appropriate personnel of significant mechanical issues.
  • Ensuring cleanliness and proper maintenance of the truck and equipment.
  • Utilizing various mechanisms and devices for loading and unloading deliveries.
  • Employing technology for route mapping, shipment tracking, and communication.
  • Ensuring accurate delivery of documents and compliance with submission protocols.
  • Providing exceptional customer service with professionalism throughout all interactions.
  • Operating a range of trailers, including standard double-drops, RGN double-drops, multi-axle flatbeds, and step decks.
  • Conducting operations safely and efficiently under heavy haul regulations.
  • Managing heavy and oversized loads on multi-axle trailers, adhering to Canadian and U.S. regulations regarding dimensions and weight.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 1 driver's license.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a similar driving role.
  • Proficient in computer use.
  • Strong mechanical skills with the ability to perform routine maintenance on vehicles.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and adhere to timelines.
  • High personal integrity and strong work ethic.
  • Professional demeanor in high-pressure situations.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Travel across Canada and the United States is required.
  • Work involves both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Manual dexterity is necessary for operating computer equipment.
  • Ability to lift weights ranging from 50 to 75 pounds.
