Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team at Velocity Truck Centres Canada. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for assisting in the repair and maintenance of commercial trucks and heavy-duty equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, battery checks, and brake inspections.
  • Assist in the removal and replacement of defective parts and ensure all replaced components are tested and functioning properly.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment efficiently and safely, maintaining and organizing tools and equipment.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures and participate in safety meetings and training sessions to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Accurately complete work orders and maintenance logs and report any issues or concerns to the supervising mechanic.
  • Interact with customers professionally and courteously and explain repairs and maintenance tasks when necessary.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled as a 3rd or 4th year apprentice in a heavy duty mechanic program.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a keen interest in commercial truck repair.
  • Basic knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to use diagnostic equipment and tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good physical condition with the ability to lift heavy parts and equipment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver's license; a Class 3 or Class 1 license is a plus.
