Position Overview

The Graduate Assistant role is designed to provide essential support within the academic environment, focusing on enhancing the educational experience for students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation Duties: 3 Hours/Term
  • Office Hours and Student Consultations: 4 Hours/Term (includes responding to student inquiries and communications)
  • Grading Assignments, Lab Reports, and Term Papers: 36 Hours/Term
  • Collaboration with the Supervising Instructor/Training: 2 Hours/Term

Total Estimated Work Hours

Approximately 45.00 Hours per Term*
*Actual hours may vary based on qualifications and pay rate determined at the time of offer. Maximum allowable work hours are 130 per semester or 390 per academic year. Employment is not guaranteed, and there is no compensation when not actively assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous performance evaluation as an Assistant at the University (if applicable).
  • Enrollment in: 1st year Master's, 2nd year Master's, or PhD program.
  • Preference will be given to Doctoral candidates, followed by Master's candidates.

Relevant Experience

  • Maintain an overall academic performance of no less than A-.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic to effectively support the course throughout the term and meet deadlines with high-quality results.
  • Previous experience in evaluating student performance in the role of an assistant to a course coordinator/instructor/supervisor at the university level.
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for sustainability and/or the circular economy is advantageous.
  • Enrollment as a 4th year student in the undergraduate program at TMU.
  • Proficient in spreadsheet applications, MS Word, and D2L with a high level of accuracy.
  • Familiarity with D2L is essential.
  • Strong English writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Compensation

Salary varies based on academic level:
Master’s Level - $47.06 per hour
PhD Level - $50.82 per hour
