About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Flatiron Construction Corp, a leading organization in the heavy civil infrastructure industry. As an Estimator in our Canadian Division, you will play a crucial role in preparing estimates for assigned construction disciplines by analyzing specifications and contract plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimate Preparation: Review proposal specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
  • Cost Analysis: Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, and other relevant sources into unit and person-hour figures.
  • Risk Management: Provide technical input regarding project and contract risks to the lead estimator responsible for final bid price approval.
  • Estimate Review: Review the final estimate to ensure that the defined work aligns with the overall project schedule and cost goals.
  • Client Communication: Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Additional Assignments: Perform additional assignments as directed by management.
  • Client Addendum: Monitor client addendum and advise the estimating team on changes during the estimate period.
  • Design Review: Assist with design review options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Project Hand-Off: Partner with the estimating team to prepare and conduct project hand-off meetings between the pursuit team and project management team.
  • Vendor Research: Research and recommend vendors and subcontractors for designated scopes of work to achieve pursuit and cost goals.
  • Company Knowledge: Maintain knowledge of the Company's values and strategic plan.
  • Policy Support: Support published corporate policies.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in the construction industry, estimating, or cost control.
  • Software Skills: Knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills for clear and effective support research, recommendations, and pricing.
  • Technical Writing Skills: Strong technical writing skills.
  • Time Management: Time management and strong prioritization skills to meet tight turnaround and bid deadlines.
  • Alternative Delivery Methods: Growing knowledge of alternative construction delivery methods.
