In the role of Cloud Solutions Architect – Developer Advocate, you will actively engage with developer communities both within Microsoft and among our clientele, serving as a representative for their needs, challenges, and aspirations. Utilizing your technical knowledge, business insight, and passion for development, you will engage in technical discussions with clients to maximize the value derived from their Microsoft investments. This includes identifying opportunities that enhance developer productivity and experience, recognizing areas for developer skill enhancement, and supporting the success of client projects. You will be accountable for planning and coordinating cross-functional initiatives that deliver customer value, enabling transformative outcomes. This role offers flexibility, allowing for up to 50% remote work while providing opportunities for in-person interactions with clients and developer communities.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business, or a related field, along with a minimum of 4 years of experience in cloud/infrastructure technologies, IT consulting/support, systems administration, network operations, software development/support, technology solutions, practice development, architecture, or consulting, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience in Agile, DevOps, and/or Platform Engineering, promoting best practices in iterative development, optimizing software delivery, and constructing effective cloud-based platforms.

Additional Requirements

  • Active Canadian Government Secret Clearance or the capability to obtain Secret Clearance with the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate (CISD) of Public Services and Procurement Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in a customer-facing role.
  • 4+ years of experience in technical project work.
  • Technical certification in Cloud technologies (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google, security certifications).
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, requiring strong communication skills and the confidence to navigate diverse customer situations.
  • Microsoft and/or competitor certifications in relevant developer technologies.
  • Proficiency in .Net, Java, or Python, along with associated frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Developer tools such as Visual Studio, VSCode, Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitHub Copilot, and/or competitive tools.
  • Experience with scalable architectures utilizing Azure App Service, API Management, serverless technologies, container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry), Microservice frameworks, etc.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication in French is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

Customer Focus

  • Comprehend clients' overall business and IT priorities, including success metrics, to develop cloud applications using DevOps processes, AI, and low-code technologies.
  • Serve as the voice of the customer, channeling feedback into engineering, including insights on usage and application patterns.
  • Coordinate Microsoft Developer delivery to enhance customer engagement and expedite solution delivery by addressing customer/partner personnel gaps.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to support customer skill development, ensuring readiness and facilitating technical discussions to promote the health and resilience of cloud solutions.
  • Ensure that customer solutions demonstrate performance, security, scalability, maintainability, and reliability upon deployment.

Business Impact

  • Growth in Consumption (Cloud & Support) - Identify opportunities to drive Customer Success business outcomes and assist clients in realizing value from their Microsoft investments.
  • Resolution of Customer Challenges - Identify solutions to customer obstacles by leveraging subject matter expertise and internal Microsoft processes to escalate through support to engineering.
  • Foster Customer/Partner Relationships - Anticipate, identify, escalate, and collaborate to resolve technical challenges, accelerating consumption and solution implementation.
  • Proactive Knowledge Utilization - Leverage knowledge of industry trends, Microsoft products, and services, as well as competitors, in customer/partner discussions to identify growth opportunities based on customer/partner needs.
  • The Cloud Solutions Architect Developer Advocate must exhibit leadership within teams comprising Microsoft, Partner, and customer individuals, deeply engaged in delivering complex solutions.

Technical Leadership

  • Stay abreast of new technologies and services aligned with customer needs and common patterns in cloud-native and AI application development.
  • Share ideas, insights, and strategic technical input with technical teams and internal communities. Participate in external technical community events (e.g., conferences, seminars, technical meetups, webcasts, blogs, hackathons).
  • Generate innovative ideas for modifications and enhancements to existing intellectual property (IP), technologies, and processes for designated customers/partners. Drive opportunities for IP reuse, best practice sharing, and consumption acceleration.
