Job Description

Job Summary:

The Operations Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the processing of all shipments, ensuring compliance with corporate guidelines and government regulations. This role requires direct communication with customers, overseas offices, and carriers, as well as mentoring and training new staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate shipments on a daily basis
  • Direct desk-level operations of the Operations Department
  • Champion process and procedure to meet or exceed company KPI requirements
  • Establish and coordinate schedules with carriers and tender shipments
  • Prepare and publish reports as requested
  • Mentor and train new staff
  • Proactively identify problems and implement solutions
  • Responsible for cost containment of shipments
  • Evaluate shipments, consolidate loads, and select the most cost-effective method of delivery
  • Daily communication with customers on relevant issues and resolution
  • Manage new account implementation from standard operating procedure to execution
  • Ability to demonstrate deductive logic, problem-solving, and trouble-shooting skills
  • Effectively deal with issues within scope of responsibility
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines

Quality, Health & Safety:

  • Support organizational commitment to ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certification
  • Perform assigned tasks to support DSV meets its objectives and targets regarding quality, health, safety, and environment
  • Staff are required to ensure that their day-to-day activities embrace sustainability, health, and safety, reducing the impact on the environment, supporting the communities we work in, and reducing incidents in the workplace

Qualifications:

  • Education in supply chain logistics, international transportation, or a related field of study
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in a freight forwarding environment
  • CIFFA certificate, an asset
  • Dangerous Goods certification, an asset
  • ACR designated status, an asset (for Airfreight only)

  • Proven ability as a self-starter, with ability to plan, organize, and establish priorities to meet goals and achieve results
  • Good command of English language, both verbally and written

  • Ability to manage tight deadlines

Language and Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in both English and French
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse multicultural environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • CargoWise experience, an asset

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods sitting and standing at a desk and working on a computer
  • Regular working hours apply for this position, at times, working beyond these hours may be required by business needs
